The last of the 20,000 rainbow trout to be planted this season went in this week. The plants started two weeks ago were split between Rotary Park and Davis Camp. The trout action has turned on with the plants and many anglers are reporting limits of eight to 12-inch rainbows. The best bite has been in the plant areas, in front of the casinos on both sides of the river, and in the Sunshine Peninsula bay area. The fish are also spreading downstream from Rotary Park. Best action on Jakes lures and Panther Martins, but nightcrawlers and PowerBait are also good bets. Riah, Kimberly and Albert Braun, Bullhead City, had 14 trout, and Thomas Navarrete, Bullhead, had a 10-fish limit of trout to about 12 inches. The striper bite remains fair during the evenings in the casino area, Big Bend, and old community park areas. Cut baits are still the best bet, but some are showing on trout-like swimbaits since the trout plants. Also some catfish showing in this bite. Information: Riviera Marina at 928-763-8550.

The big news is that 20,000 rainbow trout will be planted in this stretch of the Colorado River. The first plants went in last Wednesday and will continue through next week split between Rotary Park and Davis Camp. There was a plant on Saturday at Davis Camp for a special “Welcome Back the Trout” event that drew over 300 anglers. There were two plants this week and the final plants will be next week when the remaining fish in the 20,000 trout allotment will go in. The trout action has turned on with the plants and many anglers are reporting limits of eight to 12-inch rainbows. The best bite has been in the plant areas on Jakes lures and Panther Martins, but nightcrawlers and PowerBait are also good bets. The striper bite remains fair during the evenings in the casino area, Big Bend, and old community park areas. Cut baits are still the best bet. Also some catfish showing in this bite.
