Fair to good catfish and striped bass action in this stretch of the river, from the dam all the way down to Needles. The top baits for both have been anchovies. The bite slowed a little this past week but was improving again at mid-week. Justin Smith, Bullhead, landed a 6.58-pound striper on a swimbait. Most of the stripers are one to three pounds, but some bigger fish are showing on Pencil Poppers. Top catfish reported was a 9.2-pounder landed by Daniel Fields, Bullhead, on anchovies. After a political battle to keep plants going into this part of the Colorado River, the first trout plant of the fall is slated for Oct. 4 at Davis Camp, with a special event planned. Information: Riviera Marina at 928-763-8550.
