Fishing Report
December 4, 2014

There was a 2,000-pound plant on Nebraska Tailwalkers Wednesday this week, which include trophy trout. The bite has been pretty good over the past week with a 9-8 rainbow landed by Janice Krouse, San Clemente, on an orange Mouse Tail from shore. Emily Stapinski, Irvine, landed an 9-2 on a Mijo Jig, while Kelvin Kanemaru, Corona del Mar, caught a nine-pounder on a chartreuse trout worm. The fish are showing in front of the concession building around the aeration units and on the flats. Some are also being caught at the creek inlet. All colors of power bait are working along with inflated night crawlers dipped in garlic scent. Trout jigs and mouse tails dipped in garlic scent are also working, with white, pink and orange the best colors. Fly fishing with zebra midges slowed down last week with only a few fish per angler reported. There will be weekly 2,000-pound plants through the trout season. ORANGE COUNTY

SANTA ANA RIVER LAKES: No report. Trout plants kicked off last week, and there is a big plant again this week for the official opener on Friday. During trout season, SARL will be closed every Thursday (the day of the plants) to give the fish a chance to acclimate and spread around the lake. Information: 714-632-7851 or log on at www.fishinglakes.com.

IRVINE LAKE: Trout action has been excellent this past week as the water temperatures fell. The most productive pattern has been garlic PowerBait fished in five to 10 feet of water in the morning, and then reaction baits fished in the afternoons. Top trout reported was an 8-1 brown caught by Reggie Walter, Los Angeles, on a Kastmaster off the west shore. Steve Chiasson, Corona, landed a 5-7 rainbow on PowerBait at Trout Island, while Scott Bruno, Orange, had a 5-5 rainbow on a Mice Tail off the west shore. Rainbows at 5-2 were caught by Anthony Pendergrass, Orange, and Daniel Gonzales, Torrance. While getting little pressure, there have been some good bass and bluegill landed. Trout plants are weekly now through the end of the season. Information: 714-649-9111 or go to irvinelake.net.

LAGUNA NIGUEL LAKE: Trout season is tentatively set to kick off Nov. 19. There will be weekly 2,000-pound plants from that week through the trout season, and there will be a bonus plant of 3,000 pounds the week before Thanksgiving. Information: 949-362-9227 or www.lagunaniguellake.com.

ANAHEIM LAKE: Closed. The facility will remain closed until Santa Ana River Lakes closes for routine maintenance. Information: 714-996-3508 or www.fishinglakes.com.
