The trout bite has been slow with the heat, but a few fish are showing early in the mornings on Power Bait (especially salmon peach, orange and garlic), nightcrawlers, jigs and small trout lures. Bass are fair to good early in the morning on topwater, reaction baits, and some on plastics. Catfish fair to good on mackerel, nightcrawlers and shrimp, while the bluegill are also pretty decent on small jigs and meal worms with fish averaging a pound. Trout plants are each week. The trout bite was slow again this week with the higher temperatures. Anglers used Power Bait (especially salmon peach, spring green and garlic), night crawlers, jigs and lures to get trout on line. Hot spots included the western of lake 3 and the northern and western shores of lake 2. Bass are active with anglers reporting moderate action on the western and south eastern shores of lake 2. Catfish are biting on mackerel, night crawlers and shrimp from the western shore of lake 2. Bluegill are biting small jigs and meal worms with fish averaging a pound. Catches of the Week: Steve Kinsey of Alta Loma scored a 5 Lbs trout and a 9.1 Lbs catfish while fishing lake 2 near the bridge. Kinsey used a night crawler and mackerel to catrch his two fish. Ten year old San Bernardino angler, Tristan Villaluavo, reeled in a 7 Lbs 8 ozs rainbow on spring green Power Bait from the north shore of lake 2. Whittier angler, Gene Naka, scored a 4 Lbs 12 Ozs rainbow on a Power Bait fly near the pump house on lake 3. Ten year old angler, Joshua Edward of Rancho Cucamonga, reeled in a 3 Lbs 4 ozs rainbow using an orange Power Worm from the eastern logged shore of lake 3. Five year old Hesperia angler, Jackson Mills, caught a 5 Lbs 8 ozs trout on an night crawler while fishing the eastern shore of lake 2 with his younger brother Nathan and dad Tim.
