Fishing is good and getting better as the water temperatures drop. Anglers are still having the most success with worms or PowerBait in deeper water, but the fish are beginning to come into shallower water. Large cutthroats are the first to arrive in the shallower water (less than 10 feet) with 3-5 pound cutthroats being weighed daily at the store. Flies and lures should begin to catch more fish since the trout are more active as they cruise the shorelines. Boat and kayak rentals are available at the Big Lake Store. Forest Road 249 from Alpine to Big Lake is under construction. Access along this road is still open, but expect some delays.

Fishing is good and getting better as the water temperatures drop. Anglers are still having the most success in deep water areas with worms or PowerBait, but trolling with cowbells has started to be successful, so the trout are getting more active. The latest water temperature measured was in the low 60s. A 7-pound rainbow trout was recently caught at Big Lake. Boat and kayak rentals are available at the Big Lake Store. Forest Road 249 from Alpine to Big Lake is under construction. Access along this road is still open, but expect some delays.
