The Fishing:

From Beginner to Expert: Most of our guests do not want to hard-core hike, which is just fine. Perhaps better than any other lodge in Bristol Bay, we have the ability with our boats, rafts and planes to make your trip as leisurely as you like. Imagine landing on the dunes next to a remote trophy Char river with no other anglers for miles; you will literally roll out of the plane into the river. For years Rapids Camp Lodge has been diligently working on our ability to provide the worlds most desirable custom fishing program. No other lodge in Alaska can boast a greater ability to deliver all types of fishing to such an unsurpassed level.

Salmon fishing in Alaska is what most fishermen come to Alaska for. That will make it no surprise that one of our favorite things to do is exposing fishermen to all 5 species of Salmon. Most fly fishermen will love fishing the abundant Chinook (King) Salmon, Sockeye (Red) Salmon, Coho (Silver) Salmon, Keta (Chum) Salmon and Pink Salmon. One adventure you won't soon forget is fishing for these Salmon and getting to experience a wide variety of Alaska's natural beauty.

Here at Rapids Camp Lodge we pride ourselves on all the different fishing options we provide. One of our more unique trips is Halibut Fishing. We have two special boats perfect for fishing Kodiak Island or Geographic Harbor. Guests can enjoy the full spectrum of a fishing experience by heading out into Larsen Bay and catching fresh Herring to use as Halibut bait for the day. After you catch the Herring, our guides will take you out to sea for a full day of extreme Alaskan deep sea fishing. Every cast brings up a surprise - anything from large Halibut, Starfish, Rockfish, and even fresh water Salmon. At Geographic Harbor you will experience one of the most beautiful scenes in all the world, with 100 lb. plus Halibut caught daily, and wildlife viewing, including bears, sea lions, whales and porpoises.

Accommodations:

The RCL Experience: In the main lodge we have eight spacious, double occupancy rooms, each with a private bathroom. We also have a two-bedroom “House on the Hill” that accommodates 3 or 4 people. Nestled into the bluff this house gives small groups or families a wonderful private setting. No matter which lodging option you chose, you can expect comfortable to enjoy fine linens and beds just as if you were home. Lodge amenities include a fully equipped workout facility, quiet reading room, open bar for beer and private label wine, beautiful new Jacuzzi, high-speed wireless Internet, and satellite television. (On the occasion we have less than a full house we do accommodate single anglers.)

World-Class Planes: We ensure our ability to deliver great trips by owning two de Hailland Beavers on floats, one spectacular newly rebuilt Beaver on tundra tires, and one Turbine Otter on amphibious floats . Getting you to great places is what we do best. Our Beavers 2297R, 95RC, the wheel equipped beaver, 420RC, and the Otter 205RC, have all been stripped down to bare metal and completely restored to a like new condition. We are confident that no other lodge has planes quite so spectacular. With the only heated hanger in King Salmon, our planes are kept immaculate and maintained to the highest standards; safety is our commitment to you. A key component to the success of your trip is that there is a seat in a plane for you each and every day. With four airplanes we are unbeatable.

Otter: Originally known as the “King Beaver” the Otter is based on the same principles, but larger in size, than our three Beavers. Our Otter is one of 26 planes in the world retrofitted with a 1000hp Garret Turbine engine to increase performance and range. Set up to fly with instruments, there is no safer way to get around Alaska. Fast and safe we blow by our competition.

Two Beavers on Floats: We own two de Havilland DHC-2 Beavers on floats, probably the most famous bush planes in the world. “Cherry” is often the word used to describe our planes. Perfect for groups of 4 guests and 2 guides, you will fly in style and comfort with RCL.

Wheeled Beaver: This plane is a true joy to own and fly. Having a tundra tire equipped Beaver in our arsenal opens up territory simply not available otherwise. Imagine strolling in a small clear river where 5-pound Dolly Varden or chrome Silver Salmon jump on your line every cast. Landing on the gravel bar ten feet away you know the fish are ready because we just flew over them.

Custom Boats: We only use the finest boats and motors money can buy. Rest assured when we land at any wilderness river our motors run perfectly, the boat will be spotless and ready to go for your day on the water.

Silence of Rafts: Rafting is a wonderful and idyllic way to enjoy wilderness rivers. Bristol Bay Alaska offers many great rafting rivers; some we fish almost daily. On our Alaska rafting trips, our anglers fish some of the most remote and productive rivers for Rainbows, Grayling and Char found anywhere. This is the perfect way for less mobile anglers to access much written about rivers like rafting the Big Ku.
