Colorado - Steel City Anglers
Colorado - Steel City Anglers
Location: United States
Pueblo is becoming increasingly popular in the fly fishing world; the tail waters below the Pueblo Reservoir represent the premium winter fly fishing waters in Colorado. With wintertime temperatures that range 10 to 20 degrees warmer than any other location in the state; Pueblo is rapidly becoming the destination of choice for anglers throughout Colorado.
Fly fishing the Arkansas River in Pueblo can be as challenging or simple as you want it to be. Anglers can enjoy fifty plus fish days in areas frequently stocked by the Division of Wildlife. As with any river the larger trout are more elusive. And the trout are getting bigger every season. Having a guide that spends their time on the water instead of the fly shop can make all the difference in the world. Our guides individually spent more time on these waters than most shops combined. We know the correct pattern, location, depth and drift for hundreds of honey holes. All of this is within minutes of Pueblo's historic downtown district, dining, hotels and more.
All full day trips include lunch. Rods, reels, waders and boots are provided. Every guide trip includes use of any and all equipment needed to make your trip an adventure. All full day trips include lunch.
Ben has earned his reputation as one of the best anglers in the waters we guide. A Pueblo native that spends 200 days a year fishing close to home his knowledge of these waters is hard to beat. Ben also has become our staff carp expert if your interest wanders towards the “golden bones”. Spending most his life training salespeople and insurance agents Ben has developed multiple methods to help almost any personality or skill level catch fish, learn and have fun. Whether it’s trophy fish, large numbers, or simply having a guide that knows where the fish are (many by name) he’ll help you achieve your goals.
Lou is a fly fishing guide in the Pueblo area, calling the Arkansas River Tail Waters home for the past 4 years. Previously he guided for two fly shops in the Colorado Springs area. Over all Lou has been guiding for the past fifteen years. Passion and love for guiding and teaching motivates Lou. The greatest pleasure is taking an individual whom has never fly fished and putting a smile on their face. It is a true serendipity. Over the last two years Lou has volunteered for the Wounded Warriors program, of Project Healing Waters. It is truly an honor and privilege to assist our greatest heroes.
This river and community has given us so much we always look for opportunities to give back. As active members of Trout Unlimited (Southern Colorado Greenback #509) we are active in protecting our resource. To that end we organize the Frostbite Fish-Off in January each year to raise money for stream improvements right here in Pueblo. We also volunteer our services to the Wounded Warrior Project Healing Waters program giving our honored veterans the opportunity to access private waters and assist in the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active duty soldiers and veterans through fly fishing and fly tying programs. On average we donate one guide trip for every ten sold. These donations help our local charities and 501c3’s raise funds in the Pueblo area. If you feel your organization could benefit drop us a line.
