The Fishing:

The best fishing operation on the world-famous Kenai River for anglers of all abilities. Extensive permits for upper and lower Kenai means more options to catch salmon, rainbow trout, and Dolly Varden. On the fly or light tackle, expert guides put you on the fish! Enjoy cozy log cabins and a relaxing main lodge with riverside deck, fire pit, and a wood fired sauna. Fine dining in the wilderness served family style. 6wt to 7 wt rods with floating lines.

The Fishery:

The Kenai River is home to several species of salmon, as well as rainbow trout and Dolly Varden. Stretching 82 miles between Kenai Lake and Cook Inlet, the river has two distinct, and unique, fisheries: Upper and Lower Kenai River. The Upper Kenai is great for fishing sockeye and silver salmon in season, but the fun really begins late season, when the fattened trout and Dollies start hitting the flies! Trout up to 30” are caught in this scenic stretch. The Lower Kenai is home to hard fighting, hard hitting king salmon action, and our custom Willie Predator power boats are nimble and comfortable for up to 4 fishermen. Nothing beats landing a huge, 55+ pound king salmon! Also popular on the Lower Kenai are silver salmon, a fun fish to catch for any angler. Another great reason to choose Kenai River Sportfishing Lodge? Resurrection Bay! When silver salmon are in season, our guides take our power boats to Seward, load up the fishermen and gear, and haul in the silver salmon, often limiting out. This is a great way to extend a Kenai River trip – with a different fishery and change of scenery. Guests seeking Alaska’s ‘barn door’ halibut can charter through Kenai River Sportfishing Lodge with our favorite halibut captains in Seward, AK. River or bay, your fishing trip will be full of great fishing memories!

Trip Detail:

Fishing with Kenai River Sportfishing Lodge starts early! The Land of the Midnight Sun means an early start to the fishing day. Hot breakfast is served in the main Riverside Lodge, complete with lots of hot coffee! Your guide will meet you there, address any final questions, gather fish licensing information, and tell you exactly where and what time to meet him to start your day. Our kitchen staff have already been busy, packing your boat cooler full of sandwiches, snacks, fruit and drinks for the day. We even accommodate special diets and allergies, so you’re sure to enjoy your meals with us. On the river, the guides are patient teachers as well as competent historians, naturalists, and species-experts. They know what’s working, and will have you pre-rigged and ready to go before you get in the boat. Expect your guide to take cues from you…fishing at your pace, enjoying the style of fishing that best meets your needs, not theirs. Many of our guides have 5, 10, or even 20 years of experience on the Kenai! They even fish when they don’t have to fish. Really, these guys love to fish! Depending on the species, you’ll fish until mid afternoon, or until limits are reached. The fishing regulations are subject to change by Fish & Game, and your guide will always know the exact bag limits and exceptions for the day you are fishing. Back at the lodge, our in-camp support crew will de-rig your boat for you, take care of your gear, and even set up photo shoots of you, your fishing buddies, and of course your prize catch! You’ll be free to relax in your cabin, sit out on our expansive riverside deck, or stop in our lounge for a cold beer and a snack. At dinner, and around the bonfire, share stories of the day's excitement with the other fishing and lodge guests while you keep a sharp eye out for moose, bears, eagles and more.

Tipping Policy:

Always a sticky question, we do encourage you to show your enthusiasm for your guide’s work with a tip for service. We like to emphasize that gratuity is not expected but deserved. We usually see 5 – 10% of the package price, which is distributed to your guides as well as all of the other people who contributed to your trip. Truly, tips are appreciated in any amount and if you feel your guide has outdone himself, a generous tip certainly sends a strong thank you.

Family Friendly:

Kenai River Sportfishing Lodge encourages and welcomes spouses and families to fish together on the Kenai River. We can accommodate children 13 and up, and are happy to arrange a float trip on the Kenai or guided hike in the Chugach for those who choose not to fish, or would like to take in the scenery of Cooper Landing in a different way for the day. Guests meet back up mid-afternoon to enjoy the lodge grounds, horseshoes, volleyball, badminton, or a good book on the deck. At Kenai River Sportfishing Lodge, we enjoy helping our guests plan an itinerary that works for everyone in their party.
