Chug 'n Spook: G-Finish Foxy Shad

Heddon is America's original fishing-lure brand and in fact is claimed to be the oldest fishing-lure company in the world. Its founder, James Heddon, is credited with inventing the wooden fishing lure in Dowagiac, Mich. in the early-1890s. Early Heddon lures are among the most valuable lures in the world and routinely sell for several thousands of dollars apiece.

The Zara Spook was first developed by the Heddon company in 1922 as a wooden lure named the Zaragossa 6500. In 1939, Heddon introduced a plastic version, and added Spook to the name as it did with all other plastic versions to easily identify the new-style material.

Among Heddon's lineage, the Zara Spook in particular stands out. No other topwater bait has stood the test of time better than the Spook, and the original is still one of today's most-used lures from the tour level all the down to weekend and casual anglers. With good reason. The Zara Spook is responsible for popularizing the walk-the-dog, zig-zag retrieve that triggers explosive strikes. This sudden-but-continuous, change-of-direction sashay works for all gamefish – from bass to stripers, muskies and redfish. If a fish will bite a topwater bait, it'll smash a Spook.

Now, anglers can add another version of this legendary lure to their arsenal. The Heddon Chug'n Spook retains all the design elements that make the Spook a standout, including the one-knocker rattle, but mixes in a chugging/spitting cupped mouth. Despite the addition of the spitting mouth, the Chug'n Spook still walks the dog with ease. The cupped mouth simply adds some splash.
