Wheeler Lake has not been normal for me this year. Normally the deep ledges would be on fire. I believe with the lack of current, fish are scattered making ledge fishing not so easy. I went out yesterday evening and caught 8 largemouth from 5 till dark. I caught 4 up in Elk River fishing wood outside of spawning areas using a 3/8 Tight Line Jigs Wood Thumper. The fish from elk River was two and three pounders. So I ran out to main river channel before dark and fished a few points and caught 4.The biggest was about 5 pounds and had one 3 pound fish, while the other two were close to 2 pounds. All of those fish were caught on 3/4 oz Tight Line football jigs. Can't wait to get back on the water, I have a few days open in June, the ledges should be great then!
