EAST WALKER RIVER June 16, 2013
The East is running at 163 cfs today and is still fishing very well. There's been a little dry action in the mornings but mainly nymphing with small midges and caddis nymphs. We've been getting some cooler nights this past week so the water temps are still in good shape. Patterns that have been successful lately include fox's poopah, buckskin caddis, z-wing caddis, 3-wire caddis, flashback emerger, rainbow warrior, zebra midge, wd-40, e/c caddis, elk hair caddis.
SCEIRINE RANCH June 16, 2013
The ranch produced pretty well this week also, the 160 flow makes for some good fishing on the Nevada side. In addition to the patterns listed for the Cali side you can also try copper johns, dark lords, prince nymphs, pheasant tails and birds nests.

EAST WALKER RIVER June 09, 2013
Today the EW is running at 140 cfs. It's been fishing excellent with nymphs and pretty good with dries this past week. Haven't heard anything about streamers lately though. Lots of caddis coming off daily, as well as midges. There's been some good dry action in the mornings with caddis dries. It's been pretty warm here lately so from about 11am to 4pm can be a little slower, then it picks up again in the evening. Some patterns to be packing include: E/C caddis, elk hair caddis, para adams, 3-wire caddis, LaFontaines sparkle pupa, Fox's poopah, buckskin caddis, bead head caddis, zebra midge, tailwater tiny, silver streak, rainbow warrior, blood midge, san juan worm and flashback emerger.
SCEIRINE RANCH June 09, 2013
The ranch has bee fishing pretty good this past week, though possibly not quite as good as the Cali side of the river. Of course the up side of this is that there's much less traffic down there! The same patterns have been working on the ranch as up above, the hardest thing is that it seems like the ranch fish are hitting and spitting really fast so you have to have your reflexes in tune!!

The river is running at 68 cfs today and has had a couple flow changes this past week. The fishing has been pretty good though I wouldn't say easy. We've had some really great reports with other anglers struggling a bit. The best reports have been from anglers fishing with nymphs, both small midges and caddis nymphs. There's some pretty good caddis hatches in the evenings and there's been some decent dry fly fishing after the sun goes down. Some patterns to try include mercury midges, rainbow warriors, silver streaks, wd-40's, flashback emergers, LaFontaine's emerger, Fox's poopah, buckskin caddis, San Juan worm. The West has been running a bit high this past week with www.kenssport.com

The ranch has also been fishing pretty well. Not too much dry action but there has been some good streamer action. Patterns to fish on the ranch include san juan worm, Fox's poopah, swimming caddis, dark lord, pheasant tail, zuddler, moal leech, dead drift crawfish, mercury midge, top secret midge, birds nest.

Flows recently up to near 100cfs. This is still an excellent release for fly fishers and will further spread the fish out into other than just the deepest pools. The mayflies are the story here late morning/early afternoon #18 with a showing of caddis just beginning. MOVE AROUND. The Miracle Mile has been hammered, and although you will still get fish here with freshies in the morning-there is quality water downstream, especially at these new flows. The fish are holding in pocket water and riffles instead of just the larger pools. Use sufficient weight to get your nymphs down in this faster water.
Jeff hit this one on an Assassin bird’s nest fished in a riffle.

EAST WALKER RIVER May 19, 2013
The East is back down to 98cfs today after running at 120cfs for most of the week. Fishing is still pretty good on both the California and Nevada sides of the river. Nymphing has been the best bet lately though the caddis have stated to hatch out pretty good so there should be some good dry fly action in the evenings. Go to patterns include: flashback emerger, micro mayfly, zebra midge, san juan worm, rainbow warrior, silver streak, blood midge, buckskin caddis, fox's poopah, lafontaine deep sparkle pupa, dark lord, copper john, z-wing caddis, nori's caddis.
SCEIRINE RANCH May 19, 2013
Most days have been pretty good on the ranch with just a couple exceptions this week. There's still a few stoneflies coming off on the ranch as well. The same patterns are working well on the ranch as on the Cali side of the EW plus you can try some streamers like zuddlers or moal leeches, also a dead drift crayfish is a good bet down there.

The East is running at 98cfs right now and over the last few days has picked up very nicely. It's mostly been small midge patterns tricking all the fish but the caddis are getting ready to hatch and there's some fish eating caddis nymphs pretty good too. Haven't heard anything about streamers and just a couple good dry fly reports here and there. Patterns to go with include Fox's poopah, buckskin caddis, Nori's caddis, zebra midge, flashback emerger, san juan worm, copper john, silver streak, rainbow warrior, mercury midge and mercer's midgeling. The Rosachi sectin in Nevada is also fishing pretty well, same patterns as up above and a lot less pressure.

The Sceirine had a couple tough days earlier this week but has livened up later in the week much like the Cali side. With the water flows a bit higher the fish seem to be much happier and more willing to take midges on the bottom. In addition to the patterns listed for the Cali side you can also try hare's ears, birds nests, dark lords and pheasant tails.

The river is running at 68 cfs today and has been there for about 4 days now. It's been a little hit and miss down there but the anglers who are willing to work it and don't give up are doing ok. With the water this low and the traffic fairly heavy it makes for a little bit tougher of a time down there. Some of the anglers that are having success are using fox's poopah, buckskin caddis, flashback emergers, copper johns, san juan worms, dry/dropper rigs with chubby chernobyl, rubber leg stimulator and madam x on top and small midges underneath. There's been a little dry action with beetles, ants, parachute adams and blue duns. The caddis should start hatching out pretty soon and hopefully they'll be taking some caddis on top when that happens. The Nevada section has been fishing pretty well the last few days, poxyback stones, caddis nymphs, flashback emergers, rainbow warriors, miracle nymphs and mercury midges have all been doing well. www.kenssport.com (760) 932-7707

The Sceirine Ranch has been getting lots of smiles from anglers this week, there's still been some really good action on dry/dropper rigs and small nymphs, as well as a couple of good reports on streamers. Most of the same patterns as are working on the Cali side will also work on the Sceirine. In addition you could try a dark lord, pheasant tail, birds nest or hare's ear. The flows on the East fluctuated a bit this week, today it's back down to 31 cfs. The fishing has still been pretty good though with this lower flow lots of fish will probably have moved back into the deeper holes. nymphing with small midge patterns has been the most productive but we have had some good reports on dries as well as streamers. flashback emergers, zebra midges, silver streaks, rainbow warriors, top secret midges and copper johns have all been doing well, below the bridge you can go with a dry/dropper rig with a skwalla or chubby chernobyl on top and a small midge below. Conditions on the river got a little tougher this week due to low flows and a lot of fishing pressure over the opening weekend. The fish are mostly hunkered down in a few of the deeper holes in the Mile right now. Things should pick up when we get a bit more water. The Skwala activity is coming to an end below the bridge but you can still get the odd fish or two in the afternoon with a big dry fly. The BWO hatch starts in the late morning and gets fish eating for a few hours. The warm sunny weather we've enjoyed the last week has also brought out some early caddis. EAST WALKER RIVER April 28, 2013
The flows on the East are still at 50 cfs today. The river received a lot of pressure this weekend due to the regular season opening up yesterday, it seems as though this made fishing a bit more difficult. The low flows and heavy traffic made it necessary to really be on your game to be successful. We did have some very good reports though from some anglers in spite of the pressure. Most of the anglers that were doing well were nymphing with small midges and caddis nymphs. The water below the bridge and on into Nevada also seemed to fish pretty well for most anglers. Patterns that did well this week include: fox's poopah, buckskin caddis, zebra midge, silver streak, copper john, rainbow warrior, chubby chernobyl, madam x, rubber leg stone, micro stone and poxyback stone.
SCEIRINE RANCH April 28, 2013
The Sceirine fished excellent this week, this is of course in part because there's not too much pressure on this section. Our clients who fished the ranch did the best with zebra midges, copper johns, san juan worms and dry dropper rigs with chubby chernobyl or rubber leg stone on top and a midge or stonefly nymph underneath. Give us a call at the shop if you want to book some time on the ranch!

Flows are 40+ CFS and fluctuating due to this low water year.
CA section: Look for lower flows this Spring and a lot of fluctuation. The ranchers will have to be watching the water flows closely because of low snow pack and minor run-off. Fishing should stay good through the month of May and the fish don't seem to be bothered by the fluctuating flows. They just like to eat! Baetis, Midges, Micro Caddis and Stones are still working. Dries have been fun and should continue with Baetis and Stones working the best.
Nevada section: The Rosachi ranch is fishing well and best during the middle part of the day. Small Baetis nymphs and midge pupae are working with the occasional dry take. Baetis are all over the place on cloudy days and Attractor dries used as an indicator will fool them now and again. The Stones have started to fill in and most fish are looking up for them! Orange Stimi or Squalla imitation with a Baetis dropper works well when it starts. Some of the best Squalla fishing I have seen in 10 years! Let's hope for more of the same next year.

EAST WALKER RIVER April 14 , 2013
The East is running at about 30cfs right now and has been there for 3 or 4 days. The fishing has still been really good and there's been a good number of 18 to 22 inch fish being caught. Most anglers are reporting good numbers as well. Nymphing with small midge patterns and some stonefly patterns has still been the best, it seems like the dry action has slowed a bit possibly due to the windy days we've been having. We've been getting lots of good reports on flashback emergers and zebra midges but there's also fish being caught on rainbow warriors, disco midges, san juan worms, copper johns and pheasant tails. If you're fishing below the bridge or down on the Rosachi you can go with hare's ear, prince nymph and dark lords in addition to the smaller midges. Also you should be able to pick up some fish with a dry/dropper rig downstream from the miracle mile.
SCEIRINE RANCH April 14, 2013
The Sceirine is fishing very well lately too, much of the same patterns that work in Cali and on the Rosachi will also work here. We also had a couple good reports on streamers like JJ special, zuddlers and double bunnies down here this week.

EAST WALKER RIVER April 07 , 2013
Here we are at teh end of the first week in April already, where has the winter gone? The river is fishing pretty well right now, it's running at 59cfs and has been there for the last 3 or 4 days. Still small nymphs on the bottom with a little dry action here and there. With a 59 cfs flow the water is good all the way from the dam clear down to Murphy's Pond. That water below the bridge has some nice riffles and there's plenty of fish hanging out down there. Lots of anglers are reporting 15 to 20 fish or more per day, mainly ranging from about 12 to 18 inches with some going over 18 or 20. Patterns to fish include: copper john, zebra midge, flashback emerger, pheasant tail, midgeling, rainbow warrior, blue dun, blue wing olive, chubby chernobyl, stimulator, madam-x.
SCEIRINE RANCH April 07, 2013
The Sceirine is also fishing well, we've had clients down there every few days. The same bugs that are working on the Cali side are also working down there, plus you can add some stonefly nymphs to your collection as well as a few san juan worms. Give us a call if you want to fish the ranch and we can get you on the calendar!
