River is dropping but the only action is for those in boats pulling Yozuris for brown trout. (530) 623-4999

Nothing much happening on the Trinity right now. Flows are up at 1,900 CFS. A little too high! If you have fished it with us in the winter, flows are typically 350 CFS in Lewiston. Big difference! Is is possible to find fish eating nymphs, dries and streamers? Yes, but you will be endlessly pestered by high, channelized flows.

We spent a beautiful day chasing steelies and browns on the Trinity today. We hooked one brown, but the hatch never really got going due to excessively sunny conditions. We did hook three steelhead on our spey rods, though. Not bad for March

More than an inch of rain fell Tuesday and Wednesday. Steelhead fishing remains the same. Drift boats get a half-dozen fish per day. (530) 623-4999

There is talk of more fresh steelhead in the upper stretches. River is low and cold and clear. Locals use the lower river but there are a lot of spent steelhead. (530) 623-4999

We're still finding a few fresh wild fish on the Trinity. They're getting a bit more spread out, though. We encountered four fish today and landed two of them. One ate an egg pattern and the other ate a pt nymph. The weather has been great and there is NOBODY on the river. There aren't a lot of places where you can catch a steelhead and not see another angler all day long

Pressure is waning from Junction City downstream, although steelhead are present. There is action from Lewiston to Douglas City. A lot of downstream fish but there are fresh fish in the mix. Drifting nightcrawlers or pulling plugs will get action as will swinging flies. (530) 623-4999

I enjoyed a nice day on the Trinity today with Ramon and Stefan from the Bay Area. We landed two wild steelhead and a nice brown trout. Today was the first day this season that I saw a large brown trout rising to march brown dries. Over the next five weeks we should have more and more dry fly action as the weather warms up

Steelhead fishing remains constant. There’s been no change in conditions since last week. There are steelhead being caught from Lewiston downstream. South Fork has flashes of brilliance. It’s a catch-and-release game. (530) 623-4999

Late season steelhead fishing on the Trinity River can be a great time.February and March still offer good fishing for steelhead with some brown trout mixed in.We should see longer and warmer days with hatches of mayflies and stoneflies bringing steelhead and browns to the surface on the right day.The river is less crowded and fishes well on many different stretches of the river.Last year I had some of my best fishing in March with some large browns to go with the steelhead we were catching. If you have not been to the Trinity this year it’s not too late!. My two day special of $700.00 for two days of float fishing with rods, flies and lunch included for one or two persons. One day float trips are $400.00 per day. Since last weeks rain fishing has picked up with fresh fish moving into the system. You can call me for available dates at (530) 318-7073 or e-mail to peter@tahoeflyfishing.com
With good results on recent trips don’t miss it! You may have a chance to get a steelhead on a dry fly. What could be better. We still have Drift, dine and stay packages through Indian Creek Lodge starting at $950.00 for two nights lodging, two days of drift boat fishing and$100.00 dollars in dinner certificates and can be split by two people. Please call me for any more information.

I guided Mike and Allen from the Peninsula Fly Fishers club today. River conditions continue to be ideal. The river is blown out below Douglas City but nice and green above. Soon the whole river will be steelhead green. We found both of our fish in the afternoon. Mike learned how to cast a spey rod today and was rewarded with his first spey rod steelhead. Allen hooked and played a nice fish, too

The Trinity River continues to fish well. We are hooking multiple fish per day. There are some fresh wild fish down around Junction City and plenty of hatchery fish up around Lewiston right now. Egg patterns and rubberlegs stones have been the most productive flies for us. Morning temps have been around 20 degrees, but highs have been around 60 at 3pm! Bring lots of layers! It's probably not a coincidence that the best fishing has been in the afternoon

I guided the Grunbaum family over the last few days and even though the temps were in the 20s and 30s the fishing has held up. We hooked and landed Steelhead everyday, mostly nice bright winter run 4-6 lbs.and an occasional Fall fish in full spawning color.
There is still plenty of time to book a trip for this season. If the season so far is any indication, I anticipate that we will have a good number of Steelhead in the system through early March as well as the occasional Brown

Drift boat traffic has lessened because more coastal rivers are becoming fishable. Steelhead fishing has been good from Lewiston to Del Loma. Water is low, cold and clear. (530) 623-4999

The Trinity River has been challenging the last few days but it's producing some great fish. Check out Jack from Woodland with his best fish of the day! The water is crystal clear and very cold. I had my first skunk since early October on Saturday, but then we hooked three on Sunday and six on Monday. We've spent a lot of time swinging flies, but the fish have been coming on nymphs under indicators. There are a lot of bright wild fish in the lower part of the river. Up around Lewiston and Douglas City a lot of the fish are hanging out in frog water and not in the prime riffles and runs as much. There are already quite a few downstream fish that have already spawned. We could use a weather system to get the fish to move around again
