The Bottom fishing is keeping us going right now as the dolphin action is a little on the slow side. We've been catching Grouper to 30 lbs. and Amberjacks to 65 lbs regularly on our recent trips. We've also been seeing 1 to 3 sailfish on average as we troll from spot to spot. Check out the website: www.offthechain.com for photos.

Dolphin fishing maintains good, grouper bite has slowed, but mostly because of turned up water, they're still here, just not biting well. It should get better as the water cleaned up by this afternoon. Also we caught a huge blue marlin on 16 lb test. Our Blackfin spinning rod and fin nor bait runner reel did a great job. Fished a ¾ day with local regulars Tony, Ivan, and Ben today and it was as nice as you could ask for. We caught a few baits right out in front of the inlet and headed to a couple inshore spots to look for some cobia. As we pulled up to the first spot (house of refuge area) we saw a pack of permit right on the reef. After seeing them a few days ago, I was ready for them. We had plenty of crabs and ultra light spinners for everyone on board. The first two baits in the water were inhaled immediately and the double header fight was on. Both those fish made it back over to the other side of the reef and broke us off on the rocks. We continued up the beach and found the school again with a little better results. Ivan hooked a smaller fish, and was able to keep him from making it back across the reef. We messed around with them for a little while longer till everyone caught one then pushed offshore to the next cobia spot. We hit a couple more rock piles with no luck and decided to go catch an AJ. They did not disappoint. We hooked 4 decent fish out of about 8 bites and kept a couple of them from getting back down to the bottom. We were running low on time so decided to go back inshore and look for cobia on the sand pile with everyone else for the last 40 minutes. It was so crowded in there we decided to run the beach and look for the permit again. The sun was in a perfect spot and with the tower it made finding them pretty easy. We caught a couple more and called it a day. I love that little tower. I don’t know what I would do without this time of year, shoot, anytime of year. It makes such a difference.

Full day of fishing today off off of Stuart for John and his buddy Dave as well as their kids. Winds were about 10-15 of the Southwest and 2-4' seas. Plenty of sunshine to go around. The fishing was off again today but we were able to catch 2 Blackfins, a Bonito and plenty of bottom fish. Kids were super excited and the dads had a great time too! We are centrally located to all major attractinons, West Palm Beach, Cocoa and Daytona. Make your summer vacation plans to fish with us!

Dolphin action continues along with a better than average wahoo bite. No live bait to be had offshore because of sandy water due to the recent swell. Best bet is trolling between 150 and 250 feet. Try a planner or cannon downrigger to get baits 20-60 feet down for wahoo.

Despite the terrible wind that we had the last week, I was still able to sneak in a few charters. Beginning of the week we spent most of our time on the flats trying to get out of the wind. The trout bite has been fantastic depite all the wind. On Monday, we managed two trout that were pushing gator status. One that weighed 5lbs and one that weighed 6 lbs plus many others in the slot.

Pompano fishing is more consistent with the cooler water temps. The water in the St Lucie river and Indian river was been hovering around 62 to 66 degrees.

I did a doudle snook trip on Saturday and one on Sunday. Sufice to say that even with the cooler water temps, the snook bite remains constant. I'm having to catch 10 fish to get that "in the slot" fish to take home for dinner. Many of the fish this week were over slot and several under slot. Once the water temps rise up into the lower 70's the snook bite will go off. The fish are here just a little sluggish.

Off shore report this week is slim mostly because of the trechorous winds we had all week. This weekend the wind finally died down enough for the fleet to get back offshore. Dolphin seems to be the most consistent altough I heard the spring run of kingfish showed this past week.

Despite the recent cold front we had last week, the big schools of bait still continue to show along the coast on the Treasure Coast. Most of my charters this past week have been targeting snook. 15 to 20 fish days are common this time of year and several fish are "in the slot" so for those of you who enjoy eating them, they are in season. While catching bait, several cobia and sailfish have been caught. The pompano bite is still scattered at best. Plenty of spanish mackeral in the pecks lake area south of the St Lucie Inlet. Trout fishin remains steady in the Indian river.

Offshore it about time for us to start seeing some bigger dolphin moving through. The spring kingfish season should be kicking off very soon. On the bottom we are starting to see some larger yellowtail snapper.

Sails, cobia, and kingfish have found the bait schools on the beach. Great fishing has taken place in there for a fee days now using live bait. Offshore, the dolohin bite has picked up with fish between 8 and 20 lbs. common. Fishing Weed lines and current rips with live bait or trolling around them will produce your best action. Bottom fishing has been fair too with a trickle of north tide. Also it's time to book a Fl. Tuna charter. April 1 kicks off the season for Florida's yellowfin tuna charters www.offthechainfishing.com

Greenies and sardines are starting to show north of the st lucie inlet. On the beach cobia are in the baitfish schools. Spanish macs are thick at pecks lake. Snook fishing is starting to get good in the st lucie and Indian rivers. Trout fishing is very consistent with some big fish take on top water first thing in the morning.

S.L.I. Not Many Sails, But Plenty of Action, Good Pictures, and Saw a Mako or Sword

Today I fished with Capt. Jimmy (Ace), Brad, Stan, and Scott for the third day in a row targeting sails. Yesterday was way slow and we only did a ¾ day with the last hour focusing on the bottom and reefs for Amber Jacks and Cobia. We caught a few AJs but no cobia that day. Today we had sails on the mind again, but after spending pretty much all day with the kites up and only jumping one sailfish off, catching a dolphin, losing a dolphin, and having a ton of kingfish and shark bites we went back to the bottom. Even though we didn’t catch the sail, we did get a few pictures of it. And we did manage to land a few of the kings even though we were using mono leaders.

We were sending down the biggest live baits we had, and the boys were getting walloped. Huge AJs had this spot overrun and none of the guys could stop the fish. We had four or five on and all of them broke us off except for a 20 pounder that we let go.

Judging by the way the lost fish fought they were considerably larger then the one we caught. The coolest part of the day was when either a Mako, or a swordfish ate a bait that I took off the hook and tossed in the water. It came up and ate a big blue runner that a king had just killed. I only saw it out of the corner of my eye, but it was a bright blue dorsal fin and tail, that thrashed on the surface right next to the boat. Watching the kings skyrocket on our baits over and over again was pretty cool too. I’ve always wanted to take pictures of them airing it out, so now I have them.

Looks like the crew will be back in a few weeks hoping for some cooler weather which will push a new body of sails down.
Best depth was in 110 feet, where we saw the most kings, had a 10 or 12 pound dolphin on and jumped off the sail too. We also had a loggerhead turtle chasing our live bait all over the place and every time we lifted it out of the water, the turtle would pop his head up to see where it went, (pretty funny). There was not much current and the wind fell out a bunch in the afternoon, which made the drift fishing over the bottom pretty easy once we found a good spot.
I hope you guys have a good day out there tomorrow, talk to you then.

This cold front helped a bunch! Sails and dolphin here again! Saw 9 sails and 5 mahi

Today, I fished a full day sailfish charter out of Stuart and this cold front got them going again. We fished live baits from the kites and then trolled with dredges for the last hour. Our tally for the day was three out of seven sail bites and saw two others that didn’t bite, we also caught two out of five dolphin bites, and kings and sharks took a few baits each. We had good action both trolling and live baiting with the best depth being fro 175 to 210. There was a nice edge out there that the fish were on. The water on the edge was green inshore and blue offshore. There was lots of current, with some scattered grass. We fished till 11:45 before we had our first bite, but once we found the rip, action was good.

Bait was easier to catch today too. It was a lot calmer out there then you would think, but now that the wind has come around more out of the east, im sure it will be pretty choppy tomorrow. They say its gonna lay down for Sunday, so get rigged up, it should be good. Going again tomorrow so I’ll keep you posted as to whats going on.

Offshore it's sailfish season. The nastier the weather the better the sailfish bite. Typically NE winds are the best. Try live blue runners or goggle eyes for best results. Some days report bites of 1-2 per day and other days it 7-10 bites a day.

Bottom fishing is decent with yellow tail snapper being the most abundant. Mutton snapper and mangrove snapper are being caught while yellowtailing. Nearshore, reports of cobia up and down the coast are common.

If you have kids and want them to catch tons of fish right now, the Pecks Lake area is loaded with spanish mackeral. I've done several spanish mackeral trips this week and typical catches for a 4 hour trip is around 100 fish. Inshore the trout action is most consistant and an occasional redfish is being caught in the indian river. The pompano bite is hit or miss right now with most of the fish still further north. We need a good cold snap to get the pompano chewing.

 Till next week,

 Tight Lines, Capt Ken Hudson

I fished a full day today with Krupiarz family, Chet, Rob, Cameron, and Beth.

We caught bait right outside the inlet and headed offshore. Because the wind was so hard out of the East today, we set out in 220 feet of water so we could fish a little while before getting blown in too shallow. They were hooking their own fish, as we do on most charters and started out with a bang. In 212 feet they hooked a double and caught them both. We set back out and continued to drift North West. When we got into 135 feet over the 8 mile we had another bite. Again they hooked and released it. Three for three on that drift, Nice!  I decided to crank em in and run back out to 220 again. On our way back out there we saw a Manta Ray holding 6 or 8 fat cobia. We pitched a bait to them but with it being so rough, we either lost sight of the ray, or it went down in the heat of the moment. Either way no bites from the Cobes. We made our way back out to 220 and set our spread back out. Before I got the last bait in the kite, Chet was trying one on the long bait. We ended up missing that one, but they made up for it soon after!  When we got back over the reef again Here comes a covey. The sea was black with sails. We hooked three out of five bites and saw a couple others back there fighting over the baits like hungry wolves. Awesome! Rob, Cameron, and Chet finished their day of with a triple header and Chet’s was on 12 lb. test. They all did a great job just making it through the day since the seas grew to a steady 6 feet. And congratulations to everyone for catching their first Sailfish! I’m always happy to be part of such great memories. I’m Headed back out tomorrow and the next day with Patrick Sebile from Sebile Lures targeting sails again.

Keep it tight,
