SANTA ANA RIVER LAKES: The catfish bite has been fair to good, but few trout reported. The lake complex is closed every Thursday (the day of the weekly plants) to give the fish a chance to acclimate and spread around the lake. Information: 714-632-7851 or log on at www.fishinglakes.com.
IRVINE LAKE: Still fair trout action, but best bite is for boat anglers fishing deeper water. The bass are showing on plastics and reaction baits in very good numbers. Catfish and bluegill are also pretty decent for anglers targeting these species. Information: 714-649-9111 or go to irvinelake.net.
