1 fish caught | Lunker: 20lb Striped Bass (Striper) using a Herring
Fishing out of Freeport on a beautifully sunny day. Actually fishing for Salmon when my rod doubled over. Set the hook and held on as line screamed off my reel. Hoping for a large Salmon, I was fishing a rigged herring, I was pleasently surprised by a Striped Bass. Measured at 33 inches. My scale was to small to get a weight but it was at least 20lbs. Released alive and well with my thank you for a good fight. Otherwise quiet day with no other fish caught.

The wind down in the river is killer! Combined with the extreme heat wave that we've had, it's definitely been a challenge to reel them in. However, when the wind slows down and thew heat is slowing down, the fishing picks up like crazy! Around 7pm the bass move to shallower waters and if you pitch a jig into tules or fish a worm along post and rock banks there is no doubt you will catch a few nice ones!
