The Russian River is also a great choice for Rainbows and Dollies as the Sockeye spawn progresses. Beads are now open in the Russian. Both 8mm and 6mm are doing well with larger fish falling to the 8mm beads in natural colors.

The Russian River is full of fish with every hole just beyond capacity. The sanctuary is a traffic jam from the top past the ferry and the fish are big averaging about 8 pounds. Opening day is looking extremely well with the water flows at 'normal" levels which will hold the fish in the Russian. Our guides are also doing every well for King salmon in our area. We went 3 for 4 yesterday and these fish are fresh and chrome. The area lakes continue to put out some great fishing for Rainbows and Char. We look forward to seeing everyone this summer.

8-20: Last day of fishing for Reds in the Russian. Beads and hardware open as of tomorrow. Silvers are in good numbers throughout.

8-15: Yes indeed, the fish are now every where. First and second run fish are mixed throughout the Sancuary and the Russian. Stood at the back of the ferry today and saw hundreds of fish. MOre chrome than red...amazing. Our bead bite for trout should be awesome!!!

Salmon and Trout fishing does not really start until early May. Here is a quick update on the typical fishing timeframe that we have here in Alaska:

July heats up with seasonal Coho and Sockeye Salmon runs. Pinks, or humpies, and Dog Salmon typically start their journey in August. The majority of these Salmon have never seen an artificial fly, much less taken one. Brace yourself when these trophy Salmon hit — the fight is non-stop, and the action is exhilarating!

Coho Salmon, also known as Silvers, are among the hardest fighting Salmon in Alaska. Coho Salmon average between 12-15 pounds, with some topping out over 20. Intense fishing for Silvers ranges from late July through September.

While Pinks are the smallest of Salmon, they are pervasive in area waters — so much so that guests often claim they can walk across them. Alaska Pink Salmon average 3-5 pounds and are a thrill to catch on the fly.

Dog salmon, or Chums, are famous for their sheer tenacity and strength. Excellent Chum Salmon fishing is common from mid-July through August. These Salmon average 15 pounds with an occasional lunker topping 25.

Sockeyes, also called Red Salmon, can be rather tricky to catch in local waterways. Sockeyes are known for their tremendous fight.
