1 fish caught | Lunker: 2lb Largemouth Bass using a Pepper Custom Baits Bass Jig

I entered the lake after 6:00 pm for the free parking and to catch the late afternoon bite. I started fishing the southeastern shoreline of the cove just south of swim beach. I started by pitching jigs with craw trailers into the tulles with no luck. Since the water was super murky, I decided throw a couple variations of lipless crankbaits, including silver and blue and sexy shad patterns, to see if they would key in on the faster moving baits with some vibrations. After a half an hour of fishing the cove, I switch to a brown swimjig with a swimbait trailer. While casting to toward swim beach, I stuck a nice 2.5 lb LMB. I was slowly dragging the swmbait, being sure to keep contact with the muddy button. He hit it and missed it, and the they came back and sucked up a after a couple of cranks. There were several anglers fishing the bank with topwater baits, none of which hooked up. Suprisingly there was a lot of movement on the water at dusk with baitfish swirly approximately 30 yards from the southern bank. I got slammed once more on the jig, but was a little slow on the hook set. I was fishing a shimano curado 300, with a phenix recon 2 heavy, using 16lb test. Although the heavy rod is great for flipping the heavy jigs, it doesn't load up like a crankbait rod would when swimming the jig.  Next time I fish at Puddingstone, I'll try to key in on the transition areas: sandy to muddy bottom, or rocky to muddy bottom. Transitiion points seem to be the areas I got bit.

Beautiful & enjoyable day on the water but there wasn't a trace of action for me. Weather was perfect with just a bit of breeze. Water was a bit murky. Didn't see any other anglers having any success. Tried crank bait, drop shot and buzz bait.

Started out fishing from sailboat cove around to the boat house about 7:30 this morning. I was fishing a 5" Senko on the fly, with no hits. I noticed the water was a little murky, tobacco colored water, so I tied on a spinner bait - nothing. Switched over to a rapala jerk bait - nothing. Went over to east shore and fished it back to swim beach cove - nothing. The water is cold still so hopefully with a few warmer days, the fish will go into pre spawn. Just hope the lake gets healthy again, had some good fishing days in years past.wink
