Guided Trip, Peter Spirito, Port St. Lucie, FL, catching up with Peter, a long time client who is passing through on a month long trip from his home in FL, Â and just had two days open due to the Group trip cancellation, we are heading up toward the WV line to fish just south of Bluestone Lake. Â Hope the water is fishable, its up everywhere. The above was what I posted pre trip, it was chilly, try 47F to start. Â Can’t remember the last time I guided a trip in mid to late July with a 47F temp….out West, yes, but here? Â Unheard of. Â Got up to mid 70s eventually, today felt like November instead of July. Â Just coming off a cold front and several inches of rain, it blew out my annual group smallmouth trip and most places we fish on that trip still high and muddy. Â Peter and I ended up way downriver from that near VA/WV line and tried a stretch that isn’t wade fishing, too deep, it was up and it wasn’t muddy per se but badly stained, all floating here. Fished flies and hardware, water was just too stained to do anything on poppers or the typical stuff we ordinarily throw. The water was colored enough Like toward the far limit that you could expect to even catch a fish. Â Peter did catch several but it was sub par compared to the norm. Â Hopefully in a day or so this will have cleared out…. Here are some pics…. . . Here lately it seems the mud and murky water have followed us where ever…..North Holston, South Holston, Wilson, New River…..this is how murky it was today…….not so perfect conditions. . . . .
