The striper bite is starting to come on strong from the Avi Bridge up into the Big Bend region, both on anchovies and swimbaits or surface lures. Stephen Gregory, Bullhead, had two stripers to 2-8 on anchovies. The trout bite has continued to be fair for anglers searching out schools of fish and occasional limits have still been reported, but many anglers are getting one to three fish for their efforts. The fish are showing at the casinos, Davis Camp, and throughout the Big Bend areas. Small trout lures have been the best bet. The largemouth and smallmouth bass are in the spawn and in shallow waters. Also some striper reports in the Davis Camp region, but the catfish remain mostly slow. However, Gerry Ward, Bullhead, had a three-pound cat in the Laughlin Bay area. The 5th Annual Senior Nutrition Benefit Tournament kicks off soon. Information: Riviera Marina at 928-763-8550.

The striper action is slowly improving all the way from the Avi region up to the dam. Most of the fish are showing on cut baits or shad-like cranks. Justin Allie, Bullhead City, landed a 9.38-pound striper in the Rotary Park area from shore. The trout action is still fair to good, but the fish are dispersing and concentrations are getting tougher to find. The best bite has been on nightcrawlers or small lures flashing some red. Fish are still showing near the casinos and the lower Big Bend area, especially Rotary Park and Sunshine Cove. The largemouth and smallmouth bass action is taking off all along this stretch of river with the spawn moving into full swing, and the best bite in the backwaters and quieter stretches. The trout bite is still good to excellent in the Davis Camp and Rotary Park areas, but the fish are spreading away from these stocking sites and showing all up and down this stretch of the river. The Sunshine Peninsula has been very good. Most of the rainbows are in the one to two-pound range with some holdover fish to four pounds. Justin Allie, Bullhead, had a limit of rainbows in the Rotary Park area. The river smallmouth are really starting to show and move up to spawn. Daniel Fields, Bullhead, had bass at 3.44 and three pounds on Panther Martin spinners in the Rotary Park area. Striper action is improving on smaller one to four-pound fish all along this stretch of river. Most are being caught on anchovies. Information: Riviera Marina at 928-763-8550.

The trout action has been excellent with a lot of limits reported in the Davis Camp area, at the casinos, and all the way downriver to Rotary Park. Nightcrawlers and spinners have been producing the most fish. Also still a lot of holdover rainbows in this bite. Jerry Rose, Bullhead, landed a 4.52-pound rainbow, while Christian Stepanuk, Bullhead, had a 3.56-pounder. Few stripers reported this week, and other bites remain slow, too. The striper action has been slowly improving in the south end of the lake on cut baits fished in deeper water, but overall the bite is still tough. A few catfish are starting to show in the coves. Largemouth action is slow with the fish still stacked up in deep water, mostly suspended, but there has been some movement inshore to structure this week. Information: Cottonwood Cove at 702-297-1464, Katherine’s Landing at 928-754-3245. Interesting web site for Willow Beach and Lake Mohave striper anglers: http://lakemohavestripers.com.

The trout action has been very good in the Rotary Park and Davis Camp areas after the 5,000-pound plant last week, split between the two areas. Most of the rainbows are pan-sized fish that are showing on nightcrawlers, Mice Tails, Roostertail, and Panther Martins. Some nice holdover rainbows topping four pounds continue to be caught, but mostly it has been limits of fresh planters this week. Francesca Maloy, 5, had six rainbows fishing with dad Shawn and grandfather Mel Morore. Gerry Ward, Bullhead, landed his limit of 10 trout up to a pound. Both anglers were fishing Mice Tails. Few stripers reported this week, and other bites remain slow, too. Information: Riviera Marina at 928-763-8550.

The trout bite has been good from the dam to Rio Lomas with the Big Bend area, the community park in old Bullhead, and Rotary Park the hot spots. The Sunshine peninsula has moving water now and has also been producing trout and a few stripers. Most of the trout are pan-sized, but a lot of holdover trout to four pounds are being caught, mostly on Mice Tails and nightcrawlers. Overall, the stripers are getting little pressure, but some nice fish continue to show for anglers targeting them. Mike Zayac Sr., San Diego, landed a 10.38-pounder this past week on a Pencil Popper. The best action has been from the casino stretch all the way to Rio Lomas. Few reports on other species. Information: Riviera Marina at 928-763-8550.
