Catfish are being caught all over the lake, but particularly on either end. Lake Wohlford cats respond well to cut mackerel or chicken liver. Drop by the ranger station for a dough-bait recipe that works well on both catfish and carp.
Crappie are being caught mostly in the early morning hours. Crappie prefer the cover of rocks or submerged willows and are most often caught using finger jigs or live golden shiners.
Largemouth bass can be found lurking around structure. Shad raps, crawdads, and dark colored plastics are some of the most productive baits for catching bass.

The lake will close on weekdays after Labor Day, as it does every year, and remain open for weekends only throughout the fall. Catfish are fair to good on cut mackerel or chicken liver. The final plant of the season went in two weeks ago. Only a few bass showing on reaction baits early and late in the day when they are up chasing shad. Still the odd crappie being caught on a live shiner. For information contact the Ranger Station at 760-839-4346 or go to the website at www.wohlfordlake.com
