Bass fishing is excellent. Bass haven’t moved the beds but pre-spawn is in full swing. Swimbaits, rip baits, tubes and Senkos all account for fish. One angler last week had a six pounder and seven pounder on back-to-back casts. Fish the main secondary points from the shoreline to 20 feet. Best fish are off drop-offs near shallow water. Trout are in the main body of the lake. Digger Bay and Centemudi are attracting most of the attention for both trout and salmon. Phil’s Propeller 1-800-462-3917

Bass can be found shallow with swimbaits and spinnerbaits. The swimbait bite is best in the morning but dies by 9 a.m. Switch to spinnerbaits after that. If the wind stays down, Senkos can be effective down to 40 feet. Trout fishing is good in the McCloud Arm. Hoochies, Kastmasters – any of the standard stuff will get trout in the top 20 feet. The lake has been pumping out excellent spotted bass action in terms of numbers and size. The smaller, more numerous fish are down as deep as 35 feet and will eat jigs and drop-Shot gear.

The big ones –up to 8 pounds!! — are closer to the surface and are falling mainly for cranks, spinnerbaits and swim baits.

Water temperature is 48 to 49 degrees and is a bit stained. Bass bite is good with six-inch plastic worms in Mojave ox-blood. Tubes also are good. Use swimbaits early. If there is wind, go to spinnerbaits. Trout are scattered throughout the lake. Target the main body and near the surface early. Trout retreat to 30 to 50 feet later in the day. Bass bite remains excellent. They are calling it the best reaction bite in years. Lake is chocolate colored and that makes it conducive to fish feeding by vibration rather than sight. The lower half of the arms and into the main body are best. Use chartreuse, white colors. Phil’s Propeller 1-800-462-3917
