INSHORE - Everything should start to heat up in June including the weather. The best inshore action should be from first light until about 9am and from 6pm until dark. During these hours try a top water bait like a Zara Spook, Chug Bug and for the anglers that like to throw soft plastic baits try a D.O.A. Bait Buster. For the rest of you that like live bait try a pigfish, mullet, shrimp or a crab. This method will catch a snook, trout, redfish and lots of big jacks. Try places like Harbor Branch, Round Island or Queen's Cove to the north and to the south you can try Bear Point, Herman's Bay or the docks along South Indian River Drive. Just remember that as of June 1st snook season is closed and is catch and release only. The snapper fishing should also be good around the bridges and the channel edges. A live shrimp fished on a #2 hook, a 20# fluorocarbon leader and a 1/2 to 1oz. lead should work just fine. The tarpon should be here in full force in the Ft. Pierce Inlet, the Moorings and around the Big Mud Creek area. Try using a live mullet.

OFFSHORE - The dolphin are here and are in 60 to 180 feet of water. Just depends on the wind direction. Most of these fish have been caught on ballyhoo but a few were caught on live baits. There has been quite a few cobia in 60 feet of water and the have been taking either a Cobia Slayer by Gulfstream Lures or a live bait. Only a few wahoo have come into the docks and they were in 220 feet of water. The kings have been on 40 to 60 feet of water and they have also been taking live baits. The bottom fishing for snapper and grouper has been good in 40 to 60 feet of water. These fish will take a live bait or a piece of cut bait. Along the beaches you will find plenty of blues, spanish, jacks and sharks to keep you busy.

LAKE SEMINOLE IS DOWN .80 FEET, CLEAR, MID 60’S

Bass fishing is slow. Watch the water temperatures all day and find the warmest water in the northwest coves for any active fish. Any warm up next month should spark the fish to start to the shallows. The fish are on deep creek bends down lake. Mid day spinner baits down lake in the creeks may work but drag the baits slowly over the structure. Use the 1/2 ounce Stanley spinner baits with bright blades. With any sun warming look for the bass to move to the creek channels and points during the day. Use the all black or all brown 1/2 ounce jig and a Pro Pork Trailer by Uncle Josh on the points. After a few days of warm weather look for the crank bait and spinner baits cast on the bank cover and slowly worked to get small strikes.

LAKE SEMINOLE IS DOWN .80 FEET, CLEAR & MID TO MID 60’S

Bass fishing is good. The bass where biting real good in shallow water, but the cooler temps and all the pressure from the tournaments have slowed them down a little. The bass are still feeding on small shad, however, over the last few trips we have noticed some larger shad at 3 to 4 inches. You truly need to match the hatch to increase your odds of catching bass. Most of the time, all the pressure pushes the fish way up in the grass, but this year it has done the total opposite. The fish have pushed out to the outermost edges of the grass where the grass is submerged underneath the water. Use your Lowrance Down Scan Units to find the edges of the grass. A good way to catch them is to throw a jerkbait like the Spro McStick 115 in clear chartreuse in clear water, a Spro Aruku Shad 75 in Old Glory color in dirty water and a 1/2 ounce white Chatter bait in stained water. Big Bite Baits has a new Cane Thumper in a 4" that works PERFECT Chatter baits and jigs. Use the Reel Shad color Cane Thumper on the back of the chatter bait. For best action on the jerkbait, use 12 pound test Sunline FC Reaction line on a Lew's Tournament Pro Speed Spool Reel which is an awesome casting reel for light weight baits. There has been some flippin fish being caught on grass lines, but you have to just cover lots of water to find them. Use a 1 1/4 ounce Fish Catchin Fool weight, FCF bobber stopper, a 4/0 Gamakatsu heavy cover Flippin Hook, and a 4" Big Bite Baits Fighting Frog in Hematoma.
