Lake Ontario, NY Fishing Report

Fishing along Lake Ontario was tough yesterday.  We pre fished The Wilson Invitational for 2 days taking good numbers of salmon. A front blew threw and dropped saurface temps 4 degrees.  The fish hung to the bottom of the lake.  The bite was tough and only a few boats managed to catch fish.   The good news is the shore line should be prime for brown trout.

Fishing along Lake Ontario has slowed a little. There are plenty of Lake Trout to go around and a few kings in the mix. We have been fishing 90-150 fow and have had some decent luck. Black and silver spoons have been the most productive for kings. Look for any surface temperature changes and colored water.

Fished 6 trips in 3 days, 26-28, covered lots of water to find active fish and when they shut off, we had to find another spot. Not huge #s of fish but caught some real hogs, several 10-12 lb browns and a couple 12 plus lb lakers. The hottest baits by far was 2 of my custom painted garcia lures..will be on the water almost every day next couple weeks

These are "The Good Ole Days"

Wow, talk about fantastic fishing, Fished last 3 days with lots of huge browns to 14 pounds, some nice lakers to 16 lbs, and a few cohos.  we've hooked a couple Kings but the kids on the rods had a tuff time with um. This cold spring slowed our hot fishing but now things are heating up and should be very good for some time....

These are "The Good Ole Days"

Todays fishing was very productive. near Sandy Creek in Hamlin, NY.  Mutiple browns caught as well as a few steelhead and 2 kings. Wroked the stained water and found a 3 degree change in temperature. Orabges and chartruese were the hot colors today.

The past wekend was very productive on Lake Ontario.  Fishing near shore for brown trout is starting to heat up.  Fishing stained water we boated over 20 fish with the largest being 10 lbs.  Look for colored water and any temperature changes.  Spoons and stick baits are the lures of choice.

The Lake fishing is starting a little late this year due to the cold weather, only a few boats sneaking out on nice days but by next week things will be heating up, water temps, # of boats, and the fishing..My Brown Trout Charters start on the 13th and should be great right into June..

Fishing along the shores of Lake Ontario has begun.  Look for colored water and any temperature changes.  Brown trout will hold in any warm areas and look for bait.  Pull stick baits and spoons.  Place close attention to speed and direction. 

No fishing in Lake Ontario at this time, very cold and windy.  My Lake Ontario Charters start April 13, 2013 and we are expecting another very good year.

Lake Ontario is Done until spring, Boats are all put away and fishing the river and hunting for now.  Our Spring charters will start up again in early April, looks like we're starting April 13 next year.

These are "The Good Ole Days"

Well  The season has ended on the big Lake.  The salmon are in the rivers and streams with steelhead and brown trout closely behind.  Float egg sacs in the deeper pools. Experiment with different colors to see what's productive.  Oak Orchard creek and Sandy creek will be loaded soon. 

The fishing in lake Ontario is winding down but the tributaries are heating up. The annual run of salmon both kings and cohos in the Salmon River at Pulaski, NY is in full swing with termendous numbers of fish in the river at the present time (12/6/12). There are also a few steelhead in the river feeding on salmon eggs but the best steelhead fishing is usually between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The cooler weather and rain over the past week has helped to improve fishing conditions on the tributaries within Orleans County.

On Lake Alice the catch of Bluegills at the Waterport Bridge is on the rise again. Crappie fishing continues to be a little slow but that could change for the better with more rain predicted for the week.

Bass fishing on the stretch of the Oak between Lake Alice and Glenwood Lake continues to be very good.  On Glenwood Lake some good catches of Walleye are being reported.

Bass fishing is also very good on the Erie Canal, especially at the Wide Waters area.

The Chinook salmon are starting to move up Johnson Creek as far as the Route 18 Bridge but low water conditions seem to be impeding their progress all the way up to the dam in Lyndonville.

On Oak Orchard River Salmon are being taken all the way to the Waterport Dam but the numbers are still at a low to moderate level.

Right at the Point on the Oak good catches of Chinooks, Brown and Rainbow/Steelhead trout are being taken from the jetties.
Those with boats are still producing good numbers of most of the Cold Water species trolling the near shore waters and also trolling the Oak Orchard River.

There are some reports of increasing numbers of Perch being taken on the Oak both from shore and drifting.

Salmon fishing is slowly coming to an end along Lake Ontario.  The fish are moving up the rivers/streams and the inshore fishng is slowing down.  Troll in shallow water(10-20ft) using J plugs.   Off shore there is some good steelhead and young king salmon fishing.

This past week of fishing was hit and miss. Yesterday was a very productive day with multiple king salmon being taken.  Any where from 80-150 ft of water.  Flies, spooons and meat rigs were very preoductive.  The salmon are in there staging process and can be a great fight  Work the cold water near the bottom to pull some big fish.

Fishing the past few days out of Sandy Creek has been tough.  Staging kings are in tight but have been tough to get them to go.  The lake temps have risen due to upwelling and cold water is near the surface. Fish 50-100ft of water.  Browns lakers and kings are around.  The early am bite has been best.
