July 8th:

We landed 13 walleye and 4 nice lake trout, plus the usual mix of silver bass, sheep
and perch.

As was the case on Saturday, a very late bite today.   We had 4 fish in the
box at noon, boated 9 in the next two hours.

Big slide divers at 145 on 3, with a purple regular renosky was really good
for us.  Also took fish on a black/purple harness off the 40 jet, the 10 color
with a 3" chatterstick tipped with a worm, and the VQ Goby again.

It felt good to get it going again!

Headed out today with Gerb, Marty and Matt.  Pretty slow bite.  Got a couple right off the bat, then worked pretty hard for the next one.  First one came on a 5 color/renosky setup, next two were 110 and 115 on the big slide diver on 3" black and silver chattersticks

Went out this evening with Gerb and Jack for perch.  Didn't get going until after 7, but
still put in about 20 nice ones!

Well, ran our first trip of the year today.    Reports from all that we talked to showed it to
be really slow today.   Not a huge surprise, as the lake temps are running about 59 on the
surface at Dunkirk, AND it's only June 10th!!

Nonetheless, we got 4 nice ones today, plus a few bonus perch, which seemed to be as
good as anyone today.   Also ran into our fair share of silver bass and sheepshead.

We fished 55-65 fow water on the east side of Van Buren Point.   Originally was
going to chute the trench, but when we slowed to start fishing we had a pretty
good screen.   Gerb suggested the 10 color, since the fish were deep, and it
went right away.   Also took 1 on a 61 rigger on a WD green melon, and two
on the 135 slide diver on a orange/copper turtle blade harness.   Ran 30 and
40 jets; and 5 color off the boards and they didn't go.

Beautiful June day on the lake....and they actually had the marine forecast
dead on today!!

Wow!  Just back from our annual pike trip to French River, Ontario.   Always great to
see our friends Chris, Kris from N.C., Mac from KY.  Our rookie this year was Marty,
whom some of you may know from mating on the boat.   Also got to spend time with
my brother, Lukas.

Weather was super...it rained overnight 1 night, and it was warm enough to have
the winds open on the cottage the whole trip!  Bugs...none!   Fishing, awesome,
although I discovered that we didn't take that many pictures of fish!

We ended up boating 357 northerns in 3.5 days of fishing, plus about a dozen
bonus walleye, and another 20 or so bass.   Also had 2 perch, in successive
days, that hit right at the boat like a small pike.   Must have been confused!

We kept fish to eat almost every day, and released the balance.  Lukas has the
pike cleaning down pat, and Chris is our master fish cooker!

Worst parts of the trip are that you eat and drink too much, and the travel for the guys from
out of this area.

Overall, another great one!

Next up....  "Times Two" is going in the slip in Dunkirk this weekend, weather permitting!
We've got reports of some walleye being caught....time to get going!!

Yellow Perch are hot and cold near the red bouy at the Dunkirk harbor entrance, live minnows are the best bait. Night trolling for walleyes is improving around the shoals west of Dunkirk Harbor stick baits are the best. Small mouth action is hot any where in the harbor and shallow structure.

Last weekend was the first weekend of the walleye season. The walleye fishing usually heats up the first week of June. The smallmouth fishing has been great, been hearing stories that some guys have caught around 75 fish a day using tube jigs and twister tails.
