The boat ramp at Jumbo Reservoir (Logan and Sedgwick Counties) has been closed as the water level has dropped below the end of the ramp. The boat ramp will reopen next spring when water levels begin to rise. Hand- launched boats are still allowed. Shore anglers at the reservoir are asked to harvest any fish that are caught using legal methods. The fish salvage order currently in effect at Jumbo Reservoir means that size, bag and possession limits at the lake are currently lifted however only legal methods of take are allowed. No commercial fishing is allowed under the salvage order. The reservoir will be stocked next spring when water levels begin to rise.

An emergency fish salvage order has been issued for Jumbo Reservoir. Due to high irrigation demand created by severe drought, the water level in Jumbo (Julesburg) Reservoir is expected to decline to a point that will likely result in a loss of the entire fishery resource. Water levels are expected to be below the boat ramp by the third or fourth week of July, eliminating access to trailer-launched boats. Due to the presence of quagga mussels at Jumbo (Julesburg) Reservoir, CPW cannot perform any salvage and translocation operations. The public salvage is being announced in order to optimize use of the fishery resource. All anglers must have a valid Colorado fishing license and no commercial angling will be allowed. Only angling methods that are currently legal at the reservoir will be allowed. Current size, bag, and possession limits for all species have been lifted until the public salvage is terminated.

This 1,570 acre reservoir is located 35 miles northeast of Sterling and six miles west of Sedgwick. Due to warm weather and wind action,. Prior to the current (2/2/2012) cold spell, many areas of the reservoir were open due to warm weather and wind action. Though thin ice has begun to form again, there is currently no fishable ice. If ice conditions improve, anglers can expect to catch fair numbers of catchable-sized trout. For more information about Jumbo Reservoir, please see the updated (2/2/2012) fishery survey summary.

Prior to the new year ice anglers were catching fair numbers of trout and fewer numbers of walleye through the ice. Though 7 inches of ice formed on the reservoir prior to the new year, warm weather and strong winds have created dangerous ice conditions again. Please exercise caution when venturing out on the lake. For more information, please see the fishery survey summary.
