7 fish caught | Lunker: 5lb Largemouth Bass using a Yo-Zuri Topwater
Start out fishing at about 5AM. Started culling at about 7:30AM as I had already caught a limit at about that time. Worked the banks trolling to the dam tossing out a Strike King KVD1.5 in Chartreuse/Blk Back and no luck. Didn't start catching till I reached the dam. Started banging squarebill off rip-rap with success for a few bass. Caught one average 15 inch keepers on crankbait in about 4-6 ft of water. Tried a Strike King jig in black and blue with a Reaction Innovations beaver trailer in about 25 ft of water. Slow rolled maintaining contact with bottom of lake. Landed another keeper. Decided to try some top-water to cull out and worked a Yozuri Shashimi Pencil FW parallel and at a 45 degree angle to rip-rap. Hooked up with a 5 lb bucketmouth.
3 fish caught | Lunker: 5lb Channel Catfish using a Strike King Crankbait
Bite was slow. Mainly fished rip-rap. Tried Senkos, jigs in various colors and nothing was working. Threw on trusty Strike King KVD 1.5 squarebill and banged off rocks. This seemed to be the ticket for catching.
5 fish caught | Lunker: 7lb Channel Catfish using a Culprit Spinnerbait
Fished two days in a row. First day got to lake at 5:30AM, landed a few bass. On Saturday caught one 14.5 inch bass on Strike King 5XD plug and a few other bass 12 inches or smaller during the morning on some rip-rap. Later in the day, nephew caught a 3.8lb bass swimming a Culprit Spinnerbait in white color with chrome Willowleaf blades + Zoom fluke trailer. Another fisher onboard my boat caught 2 small bass.
Second day we got to lake at about 10:30AM. Fished a few points, weren't getting any nibbles. Decide to return to the point where nephew caught the 3.8 lber, no bass were biting. I changed my setup from a crankbait to a Culprit Spinnerbait as well, this one was in the Firetiger color with gold willows and Swimming Caffeine Shad in Green Pumpkin n Pearl belly. Casted a few times at the same boulders on a point where nephew caught his fish the day before. I let it sink to bottom and becan retrieving. Felt big bites followed by a strong tug. a few minutes later after fighting the fish from going under the boat, landed a catfish just shy of 8 lbs.
