Spring update March 03, 2015 Submitted by paul on 2015/03/03 14:03
We have had an exceptionally mild winter. The snow pack is curently below-average and reports suggest that we will continue with milder trends for the balance of the month of March. Fishing from now until the closure on March 31 should be good on the warm days especially in the afternoons once the sun has had a chance to hit the water. South country Lakes will also benefit from this with earlier than normal ice-off but watch the regulations as some lakes are closed until April 1st. This year will be the start of the third season since the big flood and we expect amazing insect hatches on the river. With the anticipated lower runoff, we should see an earlier start to the fishing and hopefully an amazing golden stonefly hatch at the end of June.
However..... things can change very fast in the valley and long-term forecasts are unreliable. Stay posted as we will report on any significant changes. The fly shop will be open Tuesday through Sunday and although normally closed on Monday,we are often in and will turn on the sign. Summer bookings are going well and if you want to get your favorite guide and timeslot it's best to do it sooner than later. The weakend Canadian dollar, our American clientele are benefiting from an over 20% decrease in last year's prices due solely to the currency exchange rate differential. Many of these clients are taking advantage of the great deal to come and fish up in Canada.
