Elk Creek, PA Fishing Report

April marks the start of some prime fishing here in the midwest. On the local front steelheading takes center stage; but not to be overlooked are lake run smallmouth bass that start showing up in the same tributaries as steelhead mid-April and are in the rivers thru mid Jun, carp, bass, panfish, and PA-MI trout fishing. Yes its a fine time for flyroders so make some time to hit your local river, stream, lake, pond or wherever it is you prefer to sling a fly and enjoy the springtime.

The creeks are low and clear today. We have some rain coming through between now and Friday. We may lose the creeks Thursday, but it should be settled to pretty perfect for the first day of trout on Saturday. We have had reports of small mouth bass, smolts, and suckers as far up as the Legion Hole and there are still a good number of steelhead in the streams. Temps are going to be in the upper 40�s for first day, so dress warm. Just a reminder that the creeks are closed Friday. Good luck Saturday!

The creeks are in nice shape today. They had a good color yesterday and are heading toward clear today. There is a good flow. Today temps are going to be in the low 40's. Saturday is going to be beautiful with sunshine and temps in the high 40's. Sunday will see rain, but we do not anticipate enough to harm the creeks. There are a good number of fish in the lower ends and minnows and egg sacs seem to be the bait of choice this week. Happy Easter!

As winter starts to loosen its grip anglers in northeast Ohio cant help but think spring steelhead, while others have been hitting the rivers all along when conditions permitted. There have also been a few lucky ones whom visited the Bahamas for a weeks of fun in the Bohemian sun. The creeks are iced up, with the Access Area completely locked up.  We have sleet today, which will taper into light flurries tonight.  The rest of the weekend will bring sunshine, but the temps will stay in the low to mid 30s.  The upper creeks may be the best place to give it a try, but you will be dealing with side ice.  Monday will bring temps in the high 30s to low 402 which will start to break all this up.

Things have settled into a winter time pattern here on steelhead alley. The rivers are opening back up due to one of our bizarre winter warm ups; but thats a good thing because before they froze the fishing was very good. All three major East side rivers had plenty of fish so keep your eye on things and if the weather is right after the thaw and drop give it a go because the fish are in.

We are pretty well locked up.  A small thaw is coming, but we are dropping back down to low temps by the weekend.

Its elk creek, theres always fish but anglers are less numerous this time of year.  If you like BIg numbers of fish Elk offers but not big numbers of anglers The next couple of dyas are for u.

Between the snow melt and the rain that came through today, the creeks are high and muddy. We have more rain coming through Sunday so it does not look like it's going to be a good weekend to fish.

Elk is clear with a medium flow. Fishermen are doing better from the Legion Hole down to the Access, especially below Route 5. We do have reports that it is locked up from the Log Jam to the mouth. Upstream, the water level is lower and there is a little more side ice to deal with. Temps today will be in the mid 30s dropping for the next few days to the mid to upper 20s. This drop in temp will allow ice to start building up and will give you more slush and side ice to deal with. With winter steelheading, you want to start fishing in the mid-morning to early afternoon when the creek has had a chance to warm a bit from the night temps.

Today the creeks are up and muddy at the lower end. It is possible they are fishable up by the Mckean area; however, we haven't heard any reports from there yet. As long as we don't get a substantial amount of snow today, the whole creek will fish Saturday and Sunday afternoon. We do have snow forecast for the next couple days, so it will definitely be a matter of how accurate it is. If you are planning on venturing out, give us a call at 814-774-8755 for an update!

The creeks are still low and clear, but they do have a decent flow to them. Fishing will be better in the afternoon when they warm up a bit and the fish become more active. With the conditions and the water temp, it is a bit slow right now but we are still seeing nice size fish coming through the store each day. You will want to change up your baits, leads, bobbers, and location regularly. We have a 70% chance of rain tonight and a 60% chance Tuesday. We do need this rain, so here�s hoping the forecast is correct.
