Fishing Report

The 33 anglers checked at El Capitan last week reported catching 125 bass. Fishing guide Jim Hallauer reports good action for bass to 4.5 pounds on plastics in the main basin area of the lake. "There's also been a large number of schooling fish in the main basin where the water is typically much clearer than it is in the ends of the lake," he said. "They bit good on carolina rigs and drop shots on Sunday afternoon." The launching conditions are good with the water level sitting 70.64 feet below spill. The water temperature at the surface is reported at around 75 degrees. El Capitan is now open on its summer schedule; Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday is open to fishing, general boating, and water contact activities (water-skiing, wakeboarding and jet-skiing). Mondays are open for fishing and general boating only, no water contact. The lake is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The concession is open Thursdays through Mondays with boat rentals available.
