Eagle Nest Lake, NM Fishing Report

Fishing was good trolling Arnies and Panther Martins on light line for a mixed bag of kokanee and rainbow trout. A few were also taken by anglers trolling lead core at three colors. Fishing was good using worms for perch. Fishing was fair using red and white Daredevles, Mepps spinners, Rapalas and swim baits for northern pike. Bank fishing was again best in the early morning and evening hours. Anglers using Power Bait, Pistol Petes under a bubble and worms caught a mixed bag of perch, kokanee and rainbow trout. 

Fishing was good using worms from boats for perch. Fishing was good trolling Z Rays, double whammies, Fish Catchers and gold Panther Martins tipped with corn at 15 to 26 feet for a mixed bag of kokanee and rainbow trout. Last week Martin Montoya age 8 and Demetrius Montoya age 12 caught 7 kokanee in the 15 to 18 inch range while fishing with their grandfather. They were trolling double whammies tipped with white corn at about 26 feet. Fishing was fair using Rapalas and other minnow shaped crank baits and jerk baits for northern pike. Bank fishing was best in the early morning and evening hours. Anglers using Power Bait and worms caught a mixed bag of perch and rainbow trout. 

Fishing was good using worms and jigs for perch. Anglers were doing best from boats as the grass line along the edge of the lake was hampering bank fishing in some areas. Fishing was good trolling small spoons, Panther Martins, Z Rays, double whammies and Pistol Petes for trout and kokanee. Fishing was slow to fair using swim baits, Kastmasters, Daredevles and Krocadile spoons for northern pike.  
 

Hot spot for perch: Fishing continued to be very good using worms and jigs for perch. Anglers are doing well from boats and from the bank. Fishing was fair to good trolling spinners, Pistol Petes and small spoons on light tackle for trout and kokanee. Bank fishing for trout was fair using Gulp eggs and Power Bait. Fishing was fair to good using jerk baits, swim baits, Kastmasters, Daredevles and Krocadile spoons in shallow water for northern pike.

Hot spot for perch: Fishing continued to be very good using worms for perch. Anglers reported catching limits of perch in less than two hours. Fishing was good trolling spinners, Pistol Petes and small spoons on light tackle for trout and kokanee. Bank fishing for trout was good using Power Bait. Fishing was good using jerk baits, swim baits, Kastmasters and large spoons in shallow water for northern pike. Hopewell Lake: Trout fishing was good using Power Bait, copper John Barrs, salmon eggs, worms and spinners.

Bank fishing for trout was good using Power Bait. Fishing was good using jerk baits, swim baits, Rapalas, Kastmasters and large spoons in shallow water for northern pike.

 Hot spot for perch: Fishing continued to be very good this past week using nightcrawlers, Power Bait, salmon eggs, worms and small jigs for perch. Fishing for rainbow trout was good using spinners, Pistol Petes, Z Rays, Power Bait, black wooly buggers, salmon eggs and corn. Fishing was good using Rapalas, Kastmasters and swim baits for northern pike. Fishing was fair trolling spinners and Z Rays for kokanee. Hopewell Lake: Trout fishing was fair using salmon eggs, worms and spinners.

Hot spot for northern pike: Fishing over the past weekend was very good using Kastmasters and Rapalas for northern pike. Anglers fishing a pike tournament brought in over 100 pike in the three-day event. Fishing was good using worms and jigs for perch. Fishing was good using Power Bait, spinners, salmon eggs, Pistol Petes and worms for trout. A few kokanee were caught by anglers trolling spinners.

Fishing was good using Power Bait, olive wooly buggers, homemade dough baits, jigs, worms and spinners for a mixed bag of perch, northern pike and rainbow trout. The pike fishing was very good for anglers using Rapalas, Kastmasters and Bombers. Anglers did well from boats and from the bank. There is a pike tournament this coming weekend. Fishing was good using salmon peach Power Bait, salmon eggs, homemade dough baits, worms and spinners for a mixed bag of perch and rainbow trout. A few northern pike were taken on worms and spinners. Anglers seemed to be doing better from the bank than they were from boats.

The lake is closed to fishing until the ice is thick enough to allow it. At least read the ice was just over five inches. Nine inches is needed to allow people out on the lake.
