One of the best fisheries in colorado is here if you go to a lake in colorado to fish at go to chatfeild. It's so convenient and it has big fish in it. I had a blast about three weeks ago. Use live bait now because fish are kind of slow and inactive. But you won't be disappointed when you come to chatfeild .

Fished the ponds near the lake today with weighted curlytail swimbaits in multiple colors. The bite was light and far between but we managed 3 bass today jigging it really slow along the bottom. Largest one was 14 inches so they didn't have much size. We fished just before noon for a couple hours. I saw a few people catching trout on powerbait but they were few a far between also.

Between the 3 of us we caught 10 SM bass. Most of the action was early in the morning before the sun came out and were caught on lures ranging from, crankbaits, plastic craws, to custom jointed baits. All hits were along the shoreline. The largest one caught was 15inches at 2lbs so not huge but not bad at all. The key to catching the smallies is to cast upshore and show them your bait before they see you. Once they see you they will want nothing to do with your bait.
