(804) 693-2107. Contributed by Park Supervisor Patti McGrath. 7 year old Joey S., of Hayes, caught a good size brim off of the pier this past week. He was happy that he was the first one of the family to catch a fish. A 20 in. catfish was caught on chicken livers. The colder waters have brought the bass back to life. Fishermen have been catching them in the deeper waters. Beaverdam has canoes and kayaks available for rent. $5 per hour or $15 per day. We supply the paddle and the life jackets.

The next night fishing will be October 5th so don't forget to bring the family and come on out. We will be open till midnight for fishing only.

Beaverdam will host the Big Bash Bass Classic Tournament on October 21, by invitation only. For more information visit our website or call the Beaverdam Ranger Station at (804) 693-2107.

Fishing at Beaverdam Lake was slow due to the hot weather. Not much pressure was put on the lake. The lake received 4 in. of rain on the weekend. A few bass in the 1 to 3 pound range are being caught early in the day in 8 to 12 feet of water. Bream are biting well; however, there's not much activity with catfish. Dennis Haynes caught a 1 lb. 4 oz. 13 ¼ in. yellow perch early in mid week. The water is slightly stained, at full pool and 86 degrees. Beaverdam will host the next Big Bash series tournament on September 15th. The next night fishing event will be held on Friday, August 3rd. For more Information visit our website or call the Ranger Station at (804) 693-2107.

We have seen a range of sizes of bass come out of the lake after Saturday's Bass tournament from 2lbs. 8 oz. to 6lbs. 8 oz. The bass are hanging in the deeper water and along the point across from the Ranger Station. People have had no trouble catching them, especially using a good old pink worm.

No news on the catfish front. The water is at full pool, slightly stained and 83 degrees. There will be night fishing on July 6th. The next Big Bash Tournament is June 23rd. The bass fishing here at Beaverdam hasn't really settled into a pattern as of yet. We have seen some nice bass from the 2lb. to 5lb. range, but not a lot. The grass on the lake will start dying back with the falling water temperatures. Bass fishing should only get better as the fish start the fall feed. The crappie fishing is fair and I anticipate it will only get better. The water is slightly stained, at full pool and 71 degrees.

From talking with some of the regular anglers here at Beaverdam, it sounds like bass fishing has remained slow. The cooling water temperatures should hopefully be turning things around and the fishing should be improving soon. My recommendation would be to try to fish grass and stumps located around transitional areas of the lake. It looks like anglers will really need to pay attention to their depth finders. Anglers looking for catfish and sunfish should still have pretty good luck. The water is 85 degrees, at full pool and slightly stained.

The last open Big Bash Bass Tournament will be held this Saturday September the 17th. For more information, visit our website or call the park at (804) 693-2107. Park Hours: September: 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; October: 7:00 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.
