Battenkill River, NY Fishing Report

Not much hatching toady- It's all about the streamer

Early or late.  Stay off the river during the mid day.  The inner tubes/ kayaks and canoes will confound you to beat all.  Temps are good and night fishing a big leech or fat streamer will close the deal on a trophy brown.

I drifted the Trophy Section with a buddy yesterday.  A very light hatch of golden drakes and caddis.  Nothing to get excited about.  I only saw 3 fish rise in seven hours. 

This section of water, in my opinion, is all a predatory fish and streamers on sinking lines.  I hooked and landed eight on the day with an average fish of just under 15".   My biggest was 18+".

The river is running high and off color.  3/4" of rain is predicted for today.  The fish are there and catchable IF you plan your wading carefully and don't mind doing some walking to get to the right places.

Prime time.  I fished June 3rd & 4th.   The flow is great and water temp is 60 degrees.  We found lots of nice browns willing to take nymphs and streamers.  Hatching: light caddis, light cahills a few golden drakes and a few red quills.  Not many rising fish until evening.

More and more rain.  Waiting for it to give us a break. We are still waiting for a good hatch to happen.
