The best in the world fished Grand Lake O' The Cherokees for fishing's greatest prize last week, but the lake held on to its own biggest reward until Sunday, when Billy Lemon of Sand Springs pulled a lake record 12.3-pound largemouth from the lake.
Seven days after the Bassmaster Classic wrapped up, Lemon landed a story of a lifetime with a fish that found its way onto his line to satisfy incredible odds and provide him a lucky payday and thoughts of what could have been if she had bitten a...

A young penguin swam into the “jaws of death” of a leopard seal in Port Lockroy, on the Antarctic Peninsula, in this photo by underwater photographer Amos Nachoun.
The photos were taken in 2009 while Nachoun attempted to capture a series documenting how frigid water leopard seals hunt.
Young penguins are at higher risk of predators because they are not yet aware of the dangers, according to information provided by the photographer.

February fishing has its ups and downs, that is a fact. We go outside and it might be 20 degrees or it might be 70 degrees. But just because you are bundling up or taking it off doesn’t mean that the fish are feeling what you are. I’ve gone out when it has been 76 degrees and when it has been 30 degrees all in the last month. The difference in the water temperature has been 3 degrees from both days. Why is this important you ask? Well I know for me, and for most bass anglers out there, we tend...

During his years as a Bassmaster Elite Series pro, legendary angler Denny Brauer cashed in with Strike King jigs. Presentation is certainly essential, but so is preparation. Still active in regional competitions, the recently retired Missouri angler sat down and showed us his start-to-finish process for preparing his Premier Pro Model jigs. The logic behind this system will serve most any tackle selection.
Just Follow These 5 Easy Steps:
1. Trim the SkirtBig-fish reservoirs...

As the Excel charter fishing boat was heading back toward San Diego at the conclusion of a 16-day fishing trip with a potential world record fish onboard, about 300 onlookers came to see the scale-shattering tuna being weighed. Before the sun rose on Sunday, December 9, the angler, John Petruescu, knew he had a world record weight of 445 pounds on his hands.
The current record for yellowfin tuna stands at 405 pounds, caught by Mike Livingston on November 30, 2010 in Magdalena Bay, Baja Sur,...

A 6-foot sturgeon estimated at more than 100 pounds — the biggest fish ever caught in history at a Bay Area lake — was landed and released after a two-hour battle Tuesday at Del Valle Reservoir near Livermore.
The lucky fisherman was Gary Howard of Livermore who told field scout Tim Goode of NorCal Fishing News.com that he had hooked and lost what was likely the same fish last September. Howard said he was fishing south of Taratula Cove with anchovies for bait. The fish was verified by the East...

November is here — and there are still yellowfin tuna, dorado, skipjack and yellowtail biting for boats fishing areas within what are considered to be one-day trip distances from Point Loma.
In recent years, we have not seen this type of offshore fishing this late in the year. But this season has not seen much in the way of northern weather systems moving through Southern California, and the water temperatures have remained relatively warm offshore. At press time, the water temperatures where...

Weather patterns along Lake Erie each fall are enough to throw anybody for a loop at times. If you're like me, you really don't have the option to reschedule or secure more vacation days to spend on the river. And over the past few years in particular, we've seen large amounts of rainfall right smack dab in the middle of the peak steelhead season.
Even though we all wish for consistent precipitation to supply moderate to good flows, it seems like there's generally no rain with extremely low...

Even though it is now extirpated from 86 percent of its historic range, a judge has denied federal protection for the Colorado River cutthroat trout.
Back in 2000, Noah Greenwald and the Center for Biological Diversity filed a lawsuit over the protective status of the fish, which would finally prompt a court-ordered study on the range and population of the Colorado River cutthroat trout in 2004. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) conducted the one-year study, and the detailed findings of...

Nightfishing from a float-tube is something we rarely see here in southern California, but if you dare to try it, you may find some of the most spectacular angling anywhere in the golden state.
To experience it, grab your float tube, waders and fins and head to Newport Harbor. A lot of the inshore coastal species can be found in Newport Harbor in the evening. Spotted bay, sand and calico bass are prime targets for tubers fishing soft-plastic lures. There's also chance for halibut, spotfin and...
