Asian carp threaten America’s waterways and a multi-billion dollar freshwater fishing industry, as well as being hated by just about every angler out there. So the obvious answer is, why not eat them? The species is notoriously fast breeding, large growing and high in protein. Carp meat itself is a slick pearly white and carries a somewhat neutral taste, which makes it a perfect canvas for seasoning and marinades. Many state agencies have or are beginning to institute programs to harvest the...

This seems to be the year of the giants, with monster stripers, largemouths, brown trout and smallmouths popping up from reports all over the nation. Here's the latest, forwarded to us by our friends at River2Sea, on a monster spotted bass that came within a hair of being a new all-tackle world record. (As an aside for all your Alabama bass fanatics--all of the California spotted bass came originally from the spotted bass found in the Sipsey River drainage and Lewis Smith Lake, about 60 miles...

Anglers across the country are saying bigger isn’t always better. Case in point, recent boat buying trends point to mid-sized motors and boat lengths rising in popularity. Seems everyone is looking for value and ways to stretch a dollar. Humminbird gets it, too. That’s why they’re offering tons of big features in mid-sized electronics—and until May 21 they are giving anglers a chance to win a 598 ci HD SI Combo and until June 30, 2013, are offering $100 back for those that purchase a 598ci HD...

With A-Rigs exploding into the scene, many anglers are reserving swimbaits for this particular application, but swimbaits have always beem. and will continue to be, one of the most versitile toolsin an angler's arsenal as a stand-alone unit.  "When I am near grass, I am throwing a swimbait Texas-Rigged with a wide gap hook.  For shallow grass, EVOLVE makes my preferred paddletail- their DarkStar Swimmer- because with no weight at all, it still maintains incredible action and can be slow-rolled...

Uh oh. A study led by Dr. Reuben Goforth of Purdue University has unearthed a troubling fact: Asian carp are now spawning in places that scientists had previously thought were unsuitable to the fish. According to the Huffington Post, Goforth and his team focused primarily on Indiana’s Wabash River, where drifting carp eggs could be found as far as 50 miles upstream. The study found that Asian carp is now spawning in shallower waters and extending their breeding season to as late as September....

Amazingly, when the Bassmaster Classic got underway last month at Grand Lake, Oklahoma, virtually every top contender started the first day throwing the same variety of lure. It was a true consensus-the minnow-shaped lure known as a "jerkbait" would win the Classic. Of course, we all now know that's not what happened-Cliff Pace won by slow and patient dragging of a jig on bottom. But the fact that so many great anglers had so much faith in one type of lure is a testimony to the effectiveness of...

Eufaula, AL (March 22, 2013) - Pre-spawn bass can be a difficult nut to crack.  As fish transition from winter locations to spawning habitat, frigid water temps and drastic weather changes can turn finding a bite into a formidable game of chess.Yet, for anglers like bass pro Brent Ehrler, knowing how to use your electronics can definitely put the odds in your favor-like at the recent Walmart FLW Tour event on Lewis Smith Lake, Alabama, where the Californian took top honors in the form of a $125...

Vermont's lakes and streams continue to produce amazing numbers of big fish year after year. In 2012, three new state records were established for burbot, channel catfish and pumpkinseed sunfish. In February 2012, Swanton angler Brian LaBelle started the year off by catching a new state record through the ice, an 8.81-pound burbot from Lake Champlain.
