Her daughter Melissa wasn't so sure she could cope with a weekend in a rustic weekend ranch in Wyoming.
And things certainly seemed to go wrong for Joan Rivers on tonight's episode of reality show Joan and Melissa: Joan Knows Best, when she attempted to cope without her creature comforts, as well as try a few outdoor pursuits.
Her attempt at fly fishing turned disastrous when she ended up face first in the river after losing her balance.
Wearing a pair of waders, it had all looked to be going so well for the comic and presenter, who even had a smile on her face as she stood knee deep deep in the water.
After losing her balance and tumbling in the water in a most undignified way, the 78-year-old had to be helped up, where she prepared herself for some more outdoor tasks.
The comedy legend had agreed to spend a week in the wilderness with daughter Melissa, grandson Cooper and Melissa's boyfriend Jason.
She also attempted horse riding but got fed up with the horse and got off and ended up leading it when it stopped for a drink.
The star also appeared to need a leg up to get onto her chestnut steed, which was named Killer, much to Joan's horror.
She was clearly shocked at the lack of comfort in the cabin with its lack of locks on the doors and one towel to use all week.
And daughter Melissa find it equally difficult to have her mother along for the trip after she arrived in jewels and fur.
She tries to get stuck into eating corn on the cob and ribs with her bare hands, but ends up getting half on it over her face.
Undeterred, Joan offered to help her grandson Cooper put up his tent, but that also seemed to go a little awry.
She read the instructions correctly, but the tent took a little more trouble than she first thought, and took a while to put it up correctly.
The duo then made an attempt to start a campfire with Joan dramatically fanning the flames.
The star seemed to have more of a good time shooting a gun for a family session of skeet shooting.
Wearing a checked lumberjack shirt and sunglasses, the comic was clearly enjoying trying to hit the target.
The star ended up giving herself a much needed break from the outdoors for a touch of shopping, but was left horrified after finding a signed photos of herself on sale for $8.
